MACH MAL MIT OBI —
A broadcast package with a DIY ethos.
BACKGROUND —
Mach Mal mit Obi is an German action-packed youtube show for teens, based on messy experiments and fun do-it-yourself projects. It stars influencers Julia Beautx and HeyMoritz. Each episode gets over 200,000 views on youtube.
PlusOne were tasked with creating a broadcast package, including a show opener and individual brand elements, to use across social media. You can see this opener in action, below (beginning at 13 secs).
Let’s create —
The PlusOne team started with experimenting finding ways to translate a tactile, handmade feeling onto the screen. An edit of some of my initial ideas is set out below.
DO IT, WITH OBI —
As the client, Obi, liked the cutout style, Martijn created a storyboard which combined this style with the existing Obi brand. The storyboard began with the influencers interacting with one another. Julia creates a van in her mind, and she and Moritz, drive through a 3D world. The animation then transitions into live footage. My role was to design and animate the opening hand, which writes out the Mach Mal logo, the two influencers interacting, and Julia’s head exploding. I designed these in Photoshop, and animated them in After Effects.
KEEP IT SOCIAL —
I helped animate stickers, which Obi could add to videos or social posts. You can see two of these below.
